Saxon Revolt scenario:
There is a secret scenario named “The Saxon Revolt”. To enable it, enter the “Goodies” folder in the game directory. Instructions for enabling it are inside that folder.
Faster Teutonic Knights:
For faster rams and knights, get a ram capped ram or seige and fill it with Teutonic Knights.
Gates Glitch:
Go to the map editor and name any team “Gates”. When you test the scenario, all of your gates will be damaged if you walk through them.
Free extra resources:
On the first map of the Attila the Hun campaign, move Attila away from where you get him. Wait until one of the Tarkans say “Bleda wastes our time. Let us follow Attila.” Send Attila up to Bleda, set Bleda’s Huns to neutral/enemy, and start killing Bleda. Once you get the Tarkans, send them up to help Attila. After Bleda is dead, go back to the camp and kill any other Tarkan that do not convert. Once you get the resources from Bleda’s Huns, head over the northwestern bridge as one of the Tarkans suggests. Once you get those villagers, GAIA gives you some resources. Return into the Hunnic camp to have Bleda’s Huns give you more resources.
Pass enemy gate without attacking:
Build a trade cart and put it with your army when you get to the gate. With a trade cart, it will open because you have the trade cart with you. You will be able to get all your soldiers past because the gate won’t be able to shut since your soldiers are blocking it. Your soldiers will then be in the enemy base.
“Age Of Empires 2: Age Of Kings” campaigns:
Start the game, click “Single Player”, then click “Age of Kings campaigns”. All the original campaigns will then be available to play.
Easy wins hints:
-To easily defeat the CPU under any difficulty setting, place eight to twelve villagers into three control groups. Have two control groups working on gold and one working on stone until all of the stone piles and gold piles are gone. Then, build at least two of every building and upgrade everything as fast as possible. If done fast enough, you should be able to either swarm your enemy or surround him with castles.
-For an easy win against NPC characters, make a map using the map editor. Give yourself 99,999 of every recourse and your opponent about 20,000. Go to the options and disable the siege workshop and the trebuchet, then edit all the other options as desired and begin the game. It will be a much easier game even under the toughest difficulty setting because the risk of long ranged attacks and siege weapons that quickly destroy your buildings has been removed.
-You can easily defeat any infantry from Elite Teutonic Knight to Militia by using your Arbalests. To do this, build an Archery Camp. Research the Archer to Crossbowman then to Arbalest. These Arbalests when fully researched (for example, Carthaginian Tactics) are extremely powerful in ranged attacks but somewhat weak in combat. Create fifteen Arbalests.?Double Click?any one of them to select them all, then Right Click?to attack any enemy infantry or cavalry. When your men approaches to attack the enemy infantry, attack with the Arbalests. Because the Arbalests are more numerous than the enemy infantry, the enemy troops will die on their way while trying to reach your men. The Arbalests have very long range. They can easily kill the infantry and siege units.
-Never charge at your enemy; only get in their line of sight. If they are Archers, use Knights or Elephants and charge.
-Bigger is not always better. If you want to win a war in Multi-player mode, plan your political and tactical skills. You can use your ally as your defensive structure. When your enemy is nearly defeated, change your diplomatic stances to make your ally an enemy after your troops get in their town center. Attack and demolish your ally, then you can be the single leader.
-You can garrison units inside siege rams, which helps protect them against missile weapons. This is very useful when attempting to storm enemy walls. Definitely use the farm queue as it will cut down on your micromanagement of farmers. Be careful as 75 pieces of wood get used every time you queue a farm.
-If you have a Villager, first build a Town Center. Upgrade until the Imperial Age and well consolidate it. If you are completely on land, send a full fledged army (Cavalry ,Infantry, Archers, Siege Weapons, Petards, two Villagers and three Monks). After clearing a significantly big patch of land near or in the enemy territory, immediately build two Castles, Town Center, Stable, Barracks, Archery Range, and consolidate it with Towers. Use a strong Cavalry attack on the enemy for a sure victory. If water is also present, first send a Villager to build then attack from there.
-You can destroy trees with Siege Onagers (available only to the Teutons, Celts, Mongols, Aztecs, Saracens and Koreans) or Trebuchets. Siege Onagers are far more effective than Trebuchets. You can use this to enter enemy towns and surprise them without breaking down their walls. You can also destroy all the forests close to their towns so that they have to go outside to get wood, and you can kill the Villagers.
-If you do not have plenty of resources but want to win, make a huge number of archers (specialized archers, like Longbowmen and Hand cannoneers are best), a couple monks, and some ranged siege weapons (either Mangonels, bombard cannons or trebuchets) and give them a common number. then put them in Line formation on either defensive stance or stand ground. The monks will heal your archers as they are damaged and the archers and siege weapons will destroy the enemies and their town. The longer ranged your guys are, the better. Just watch out for enemy mangonels, as they will kill your guys like flies.
-The Turks have a 8 5 bombard tower range. This is great for placing out of range of enemy castles and towers and destroying them without harm.
-Always have Villagers travel with your army. This way, when an enemy Tower or Castle goes down you can build (if you have a lot of resources) the same building that was destroyed. This is a good defense mechanism; if they go to attack you, they will run into your Towers.
-The best unit is an Elite Teutonic Knight. You only need fifteen of them to destroy an enemy Castle.
-You can take out a Castle using your Longbowmen. To do this, go to the Imperial Age and research Yeomen. Attack a castle with lots of Longbowmen. Because they have range of 12 and the Castle has a maximum range of 11, it cannot attack them Guard your Longbowmen using Knights.
-If you are on a coastal map, always have a dock with a passenger ship with five Villagers, a Scout Cavalry, five Foot Troops, three of the unique class, and at least two Archers. If you are losing the fight, set sail to an empty area and rebuild. This will give you a second chance, but you must move quickly.
-If you are going to attack the enemy’s kingdom, do not take your troops and attack. First, group your troops with some Villagers and stay a distance from your enemy. Built a Fort (recruit Trebuchets, or if you are the Britons recruit Longbowmen), Stable (recruit Paladin), Siege Workshop (recruit Heavy Scorpion), then attack your enemy with your troops. It will be more powerful and you have non-stop supplying for your troops.
-To make your army more effective against the enemy, first find out what type of special unit they have. Your army should consist of many units that have strengths against that unit type. For example, their special unit is a mounted unit, then your army should be filled the highest level Spearman you can create, etc.). In the same way, your army should be filled with units which have strengths against the unit that your enemy uses to to attack you with most often. The rest of your army can be filled with whatever desired.
Reseeding hint:
On the mill you will find a “Reseed Farm” icon. Choosethe Mill then press [F3] to pause game play. Check to see if you have enough wood, then start clicking on the icon. After some time, stop clicking and press [F3] again. You will have plenty of reseeds in the list.
Defenses hint:
-Always build walls and towers to protect yourself. Place walls from one forest to another. Never build walls from one mine to forest; mine to mine; or forage bush to mine. Otherwise, when you have gathered all the resources in the mine, that part of the wall will become open. The enemy will enter as soon as the wall has become open.
-Play defensively with some villagers to repair. Develop two or more castles from the Mongol civilization and garrison elite Mangudai inside, and have twenty units in each castle. You will get good results. With other civilizations, place archers inside the castles to improve your defense. This also heals your units that are inside the castles.
Preview wonders:
-To see all the Wonders of the civilizations, go to create a scenario. Simply change your civilization, then place another Wonder.
-Select the “Defend The Wonder” option during a standard game. You can also change the civilization and see their respective Wonder.
Recommended civilizations:
-The Mongols are the best civilization, then the Celts, then the Persians, and finally the Britons.
-The Spanish are one of the best civilizations. Focus on collecting wood and gold, then build up a formidable navy (especially Elite Cannon Galleons).
