Auto Pilot mode:
To unlock Auto Pilot mode in which Mario will automatically complete a level, fail a level eight times. A Super Guide Block will then appear at the beginning of the level. Hit it to activate Auto Pilot mode.
Hint Movies:
To unlock the Developer’s Hint Movies for a level, collect the three Star Coins for that level.
Title Screen Stars:
To display stars on the title screen, beat all levels without dying on a level more than eight times.
Hatless Mario:
To make Mario lose his hat, beat a level with 99 lives.
99 lives in World 2-4:
You can get 99 lives in World 2-4, just after the two Piranha Plants there will be a staircase with a turtle walking down it. Jump on the turtle when it is about to step off the third from the bottom stair. Mario should continue to jump on the turtle earning you up to 99 lives.
99 Lives in World 7-5:
You can get 99 lives in World 7-5 by throwing a Koopa shell in-between the two Bullet Bill cannons.
99 lives in World 2-3:
In World 2-3, just before the flag are some stairs with a turtle moving down, jump on the turtles shell to continue bouncing to collect up to 99 lives.
Extra lives:
Kill eight enemies with a star on you to gain an extra life. Keep it going until the star runs out if you are fast enough.
Kill eight enemies with a turtle shell to gain an extra life. You can keep hitting the turtle shell until there are no more enemies if you run fast enough.
Jump on seven turtles to gain an extra life. You can keep jumping on the turtles until there are no more to jump on if you are fast enough.
Easy coins:
To easily get a coin, stand still, then Spin Jump on a dancing flower.
Yoshi lives:
To get extra lives while riding Yoshi, jump on the bullets eight times.
Pokeies lives:
To gain five lives, freeze the Pokeies and then peform a Ground Pound.
Stars:
Unlock the following stars on your saved game file by performing the corresponding tasks:
STAR – HOW TO UNLOCK
Star 1 – Beat the game
Star 2 – Collect all 225 Star Coins in all 9 Worlds
Star 3 – Beat every level in the game without unlocking the Super Guide Block (you cannot die eight times in a row on a level)
Star 4 – Collect all 201 Star Coins in the first 8 Worlds Unconfirmed
Star 5 – Beat every level (this includes using all of the Warp Cannons and Mushroom Houses) Unconfirmed
World 9:
To unlock World 9, complete the game. There are eight levels that can be unlocked in World 9. To unlock level 1 in World 9, collect all coins in World 1. To unlock level 2 in World 9, collect all coins in World 2 and so on…
Alternate Endings:
Unlock the following alternate endings by performing the corresponding tasks:
ALTERNATE ENDING – HOW TO UNLOCK
Alternate Ending 1 (The Princess says, “Did I ever tell you about the Secret World?”) – Beat the game with under 100 Star Coins.
Alternate Ending 2 (The Princess says, “Oh Mario, tell me about your adventure again!”) – Collect all of the Star Coins in Worlds 1-8.
Mushroom Houses:
To unlock Mushroom houses, go to a level with a white Toad Marker and release Toad from the “?” Block that he is trapped in. To make the following different types of Mushroom houses appear, get Toad to the end of the level and hit the flag when the last digit of the time ends in the corresponding numbers:
MUSHROOM HOUSE – NUMBERS
Green (1-Up cannon game) – Ends in 0, 1, 2 or 3.
Red (Match game) – Ends in 4, 5 or 6
Gold (Star reward) – Ends in 7, 8 or 9
Multiplayer Mushroom Houses:
To make the following Mushroom Houses appear in multiplayer mode, touch the flagpole to clear the level when the last two digits of the time are the corresponding numbers:
MUSHROOM HOUSE – NUMBERS
Gold Mushroom House – Touch the flagpole when the last two time digits are 99.
Green Mushroom House – Touch the flagpole when the last two time digits are 11 or 22.
Red Mushroom House – Touch the flagpole when the last two time digits are 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, or 88.
Mushroom Houses:
Complete the game to make all Mushroom houses in Worlds 1-8 reappear.
Save anywhere:
Complete the game to unlock the ability to save at any point on the map.
Flower Coins:
You can get coins from the tiny dancing flowers by shaking the Wii-mote to spin-jump onto them.
Avoid Map Screen Enemies:
To avoid the plundering enemies on the world map screen, activate a star from your items menu.
Turtle Shell Protection:
To pick up a turtle shell and hold it over your head, press 1 and shake the Wii-mote. This will protect you from falling Bob-Ombs and other objects.
Double Ground Pound:
To perform a double ground pound that can kill all surrounding enemies, with two human players, press Jump and then Down so that both players hit the ground at the same time.
Steal Turn in Red Mushroom House:
To steal your teammates turn in the Red Mushroom House multiplayer match game, perform a ground pound on him by jumping and the pressing down.
Dead player sounds:
In multi-player mode, when someone runs out of lives they can hold the D-pad in any direction and press 1 and 2 to make various sounds.
